As a Values-Based Firm, Our Guiding Principles Extend into Every Facet of Our Lives and Communities

At SBI, we have a unique culture where we have the opportunity to make a significant impact on our employees and client’s lives. Beyond that, we see our ability to help others reach their full potential expand beyond the SBI community. This desire to make a difference led us to the Jessie Rees Foundation. We found this organization through a mutual connection from an SBI employee and were quickly captivated by Jessie’s spirit and ambition to help others.

Jessie’s Story

Jessie was a driven and passionate young girl who courageously fought cancer (DIPG) from March 3, 2011, to January 5, 2012. Jessie’s compassion for others led her to ask her parents a short and simple question, “How can we help them?” Jessie was referring to the other children who were in long-term, in-patient treatment at Children’s Hospital of Orange County, the same hospital that Jessie was receiving treatment from.  After receiving the “go ahead” from the hospital and her parents, she created her JoyJars® 64 oz plastic jars stuffed to the very top with new, age-appropriate toys and games.   Jessie stuffed over 3,000 with family and friends before she lost her fight. By the end of 2019, over 300,000 of Jessie’s JoyJars will have been stuffed and sent to kids fighting cancer in all 50 states and over 40 countries.

Full Potential Summit 2020 x Joy Jars

Being a virtual firm, we get together once a year at our Full Potential Summit to activate our purpose, vision, and values. To make our time together as impactful as possible, we brought in the Jessie Rees team to drive engagement and give back to the community. Although not the first time SBI has given back, this was the most meaningful for our firm and are excited for what the future holds for SBI and the Jessie Rees Foundation.
